12 ft Wide Faux Grass (2026): When a 12-Foot Roll Saves Seams, Where to Buy It and How to Order

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

A 12 ft roll covers most yards' width in one piece, which means fewer seams and a cleaner lawn.

12 ft wide faux grass is turf sold off a 12-foot-wide roll, usually cut to whatever length you order, by the linear foot. It's one of the two standard landscape widths, along with 15 ft. For a yard up to 12 ft wide, it means no seams at all. For wider yards, it often means one seam instead of two or three. Fewer seams means less tape, less glue, less work and a lawn that looks like one piece.

This guide shows when a 12 ft roll makes sense, works through the seam math, explains where to buy and how ordering works, and lists 12 ft options. We drew on product listings from Home Depot and Greatmats and seller-listed specs on Amazon. Prices change, so we don't quote them. For roll sizes in general, see our faux grass roll guide.

When does a 12 ft roll make sense?

Pick the width that covers your yard's narrow side with the fewest pieces.

These examples lay strips along the yard's long side. "Waste" is turf you'd trim off the width.

Yard7.5 ft rolls12 ft rolls15 ft rolls
12 × 30 ft2 strips, 1 seam, 90 sq ft waste1 strip, 0 seams, no waste1 strip, 0 seams, 90 sq ft waste
20 × 30 ft3 strips, 2 seams, 75 sq ft waste2 strips, 1 seam, 120 sq ft waste2 strips, 1 seam, 300 sq ft waste
25 × 40 ft4 strips, 3 seams, 200 sq ft waste3 strips, 2 seams, 440 sq ft waste2 strips, 1 seam, 200 sq ft waste

The pattern: a 12 ft roll wins when the yard is up to 12 ft wide, or a little under 24 ft wide. Above about 24 ft, a 15 ft roll often wins. See 15 ft wide faux grass.

Sometimes turning the strips the other way, across the short side, cuts waste. Try both layouts before you order. Our cost calculator helps.

Is 12 ft wide turf better than smaller rolls? For most yards between about 8 and 24 ft wide, yes, because it cuts seams. Fewer seams means a cleaner look. See our seam tape guide.

How many seams will I have? Divide the yard's width by 12 and round up. Subtract one. That's your seam count.

Where can you buy 12 ft wide turf, and how does ordering work?

Most 12 ft turf is cut to order, shipped by freight and not returnable. Here's what to know:

  • Big-box stores cut to length. Home Depot sells several 12 ft wide lines cut to the length you order, including TrafficMaster PET-MULTIPLAY, a LITA Multipurpose line, Greenfield and a LITA Golf putting turf. They're priced per square foot.
  • Specialty retailers sell sports and padded rolls. Greatmats sells 12 ft padded sports rolls, such as its All Sport and V-Max lines, and Bermuda-style turf in 12 and 15 ft widths.
  • Amazon is mostly pre-cut. Most Amazon turf comes in set sizes or narrower widths. A few pre-cut pieces measure 12 ft on one side.
  • Custom cuts are usually final sale. Measure twice. Check the return policy before ordering.
  • Expect freight delivery. Wide rolls are heavy and usually arrive on a truck, sometimes curbside only.
  • Plan for two to four people. Long 12 ft rolls are heavy and awkward.
  • Order everything at once. Buy all your turf in one order, so it comes from the same production lot and the colour matches.

Does Amazon sell 12 ft wide turf? Mostly as pre-cut pieces rather than cut-to-length rolls. For a true cut-to-length 12 ft roll, big-box and specialty retailers are more reliable.

Can you return a cut roll? Usually not. Custom cuts are often final sale.

For odd shapes, see faux grass for custom sizes.

The best 12 ft wide picks

These lines come in a true 12 ft width, or measure 12 ft on one side.

1. VEVOR 12 × 7 ft — Best 12 ft Piece on Amazon

Size: 12 × 7 ft | Pile: 0.6 in (seller-listed)

VEVOR sells a pre-cut piece that measures 12 ft on one side. For a patio or small yard 12 ft wide and up to 7 ft deep, it covers the space in one piece.

But it's a fixed size, not a cut-to-length roll. For longer areas, buy from a cut-to-length retailer.

Our take: from our hands-on work with artificial grass, a single uncut piece always looks cleaner than two joined ones, because seams are the first thing that catches the eye in photos. At 0.6 in, this is a shorter pile that suits a patio better than a showpiece lawn.

2. TrafficMaster PET-MULTIPLAY (Home Depot) — Best 12 ft Pet and Play Roll

Width: 12 ft, cut to length | Sold by: Home Depot (non-affiliate)

Home Depot sells TrafficMaster PET-MULTIPLAY in a 12 ft width, cut to your length. It's aimed at homes with pets and kids. Because it's cut to order, you can cover a 12 ft wide yard of any length with no seams.

But it's cut to order, so returns are limited.

Our take: in our experience handling turf, pet-focused grass tends to be denser and springier, which helps it bounce back from paws and play. A seamless 12 ft piece also removes the weakest point, since seam edges are where pets dig and lift.

See our TrafficMaster review.

3. LITA Multipurpose (Home Depot) — Best 12 ft Landscape Roll

Width: 12 ft, cut to length | Sold by: Home Depot (non-affiliate)

Home Depot also sells a LITA Multipurpose turf in a 12 ft width, cut to length. It's a good fit for lawns where you want LITA's look in a wide, seam-saving roll.

But check the exact specs on the Home Depot listing, as they may differ from LITA's Amazon products.

Our take: from working with artificial grass, multipurpose turf is the safe middle ground: not so long that it mats down, not so short that it looks like a mat. In a wide roll, that even look carries across the whole lawn without a seam line breaking it up.

See our LITA review.

4. LITA Golf Putting Turf (Home Depot) — Best 12 ft Putting Roll

Width: 12 ft, cut to length | Use: putting greens | Sold by: Home Depot (non-affiliate)

Backyard putting green with no seams

A putting green looks and rolls best with no seams. A 12 ft putting roll covers most backyard greens in one piece.

Our take: from our hands-on turf work, short, tight putting pile shows every flaw underneath it, so a seamless roll matters more here than anywhere else. Spend the extra effort on a flat, compacted base.

See faux grass for putting greens.

5. Greatmats Padded Sports Rolls — Best 12 ft Padded Roll

Width: 12 ft, custom lengths | Lines: All Sport, V-Max and others | Sold by: Greatmats (non-affiliate)

Padded sports turf in a home gym

For a home gym, training area or play space, Greatmats sells 12 ft wide turf rolls with padding built in. That saves laying a separate pad. See faux grass for sports.

But padded rolls are heavy and costly to ship.

Our take: from building stages and floors with artificial grass, built-in padding makes turf feel far more forgiving underfoot than turf laid on a hard floor. The trade-off is weight, so plan the delivery and carry before you order.

12 ft roll questions

These are the questions buyers ask before ordering a wide roll.

How heavy is a 12 ft roll? Weight grows with length and density. A long 12 ft roll can weigh several hundred pounds. Ask the seller for the weight before delivery day.

How do I get it into the backyard? Plan the route first: gates, steps and tight corners. Use a turf dolly or a roll bar, and have helpers ready. If access is very tight, two narrower pieces may be easier. See faux grass for large areas.
