Editorial Policy

This page explains how Faux Emporium researches products, compares features and decides what to recommend. Our goal is simple: help you buy the right faux product the first time, with no hype and no hidden agenda.

How we choose topics

We cover faux and artificial products people actually search for, across more than 60 categories from artificial grass and fake plants to Halloween props, faux stone and costume jewelry. For each category, we map the questions buyers ask, from "what is it made of?" to "which one is best for my dog?", and build a guide for each one.

How we research a guide

  1. Study the best existing guides. We read the ten best-ranking pages on the topic to see what they cover, what they get right and what they leave out.
  2. Go to primary sources. Facts such as costs, lifespans, materials, safety and regulations come from manufacturers' spec sheets, university extension services, government agencies, standards bodies and installer guidance. We name the source in the text.
  3. Check every claim. Each factual claim is checked against its source before publishing. If sources disagree, we say so instead of picking the convenient answer.
  4. Read reviews for patterns. We look at verified buyer reviews for repeated reports, like fading after one summer, shedding or a chemical smell, rather than relying on star ratings alone.

How we compare and recommend products

  • We match products to a job. "Best for dogs," "best for balconies" and "best on a budget" mean different products. Each pick says who it's for and who should skip it.
  • We compare the specs that matter. Materials, dimensions, density, weight, backing, warranty and anything else that changes how the product performs.
  • We list pros and cons. Every recommended product gets honest drawbacks, including products that earn us a commission.
  • We say where specs come from. When a number comes from the seller's listing, we label it as seller-listed.

Hands-on experience, and what we don’t claim

We also work with faux products hands-on in our own decoration shop, building stages, arches and backdrops from artificial flowers, grass panels and garlands. That experience informs how we judge realism, color and durability.

We haven’t tested every product we write about, though. Unless a guide says we’ve handled a product ourselves, its recommendations are based on research, and we never claim testing we didn’t do. Opinions are labeled “Our take” so they’re easy to tell apart from facts.

Images

We use a mix of images: real photos, including our own photos from the shop, and AI-generated or AI-edited images. AI images illustrate a scene or an idea, and we never present them as photos of a specific product. For exact product photos, check the retailer’s listing.

Independence and money

We earn commissions from some links, as explained in our affiliate disclosure. Commissions never decide which products we include or how we rank them. We don't accept payment for reviews, rankings or placements, and brands can't buy a better position in our guides.

Updates and corrections

Prices, stock and ratings change daily, so instead of printing prices that may already be out of date, we link to the retailer’s listing for current details. We review guides regularly and update them when products change, new information appears or a reader points out a problem.

If you find an error, please tell us through our contact page. We check every report, correct confirmed mistakes quickly and note the change on the page.
