5 Best Vacuums for Faux Grass (2026): Turf Sweepers, Blower-Vacs and When a House Vacuum Works

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

You can vacuum faux grass, but a turf sweeper does it far better than a house vacuum.

A turf vacuum is a powered sweeper with a rotating brush. It lifts flattened blades and collects leaves, pet hair and debris into a bag in one pass. A house vacuum does the second part badly and the first part not at all. On infilled turf, it also sucks up the sand that holds the lawn together.

So this guide answers whether you can vacuum turf, matches machines to lawn size and gives five good options. We compared seller-listed specs on Amazon and read roundups from Flooring Clarity and FaucetFam. For hand tools, see our brush guide.

Can you vacuum faux grass?

Indoors, yes; outdoors, use a turf sweeper set high enough to leave the infill.

Indoor turf has no infill and a short pile, so a normal house vacuum works. Switch the beater bar off or set it to its lowest setting, because a spinning brush roll can fray blades.

But outdoor turf is different. Most lawns have sand or other infill between the blades. A house vacuum pulls that infill straight up, which leaves the blades unsupported and flat. It also can't lift matted blades, and its small bin fills fast with leaves.

Fortunately, a turf sweeper solves both problems. Its brush combs the blades upright and flicks debris into a bag, and its brush height can be set to skim the top of the pile without digging into the infill. For big leaf drops, a blower-vac is quicker.

Is it OK to vacuum artificial grass? Yes, with the right tool. Use a house vacuum indoors and a turf sweeper outdoors.

Will a vacuum suck up infill? A house vacuum usually will. A turf sweeper set at the right height mostly won't.

Which machine for your lawn size?

Lawn size decides motor size and bag size.

The 5 best faux grass vacuums

These five machines cover small yards through large lawns.

1. Roll & Comb 131E — Best Turf Vacuum for Small Lawns

Motor: 300 W | Width: 13 in | Type: corded electric

On a small lawn, you want something light enough to carry out of the shed with one hand.

Roll & Comb says its 131E is designed for small to medium lawns, with a 300 W motor and a 13 in working width. It uses a spiral brush and a two-pass method: push forward to gather dry leaves and pet hair, then pull back to lift flattened fibres and remove footmarks. That's exactly the routine a small pet lawn needs.

But Roll & Comb describes it as suited to dry leaves, pet hair and light debris. It won't handle wet leaves or heavy mess.

Our take: from our hands-on work with artificial grass, a light pass with a spiral brush is what brings flattened blades back up; on a small lawn, a compact machine you actually bother to use beats a bigger one left in the shed.

2. Roll & Comb 302EUS — Best Turf Vacuum for Medium Lawns

Type: corded electric artificial grass sweeper | Method: two passes for fibres under 1.6 in (seller)

Roll & Comb 302 sweeper grooming a medium-size lawn

Flooring Clarity featured the 302 in its turf sweeper roundup. It's Roll & Comb's mid-size model.

Roll & Comb says the 302EUS cleans, combs and collects debris in one go, helping blades stand upright. Push it forward to clean and collect, then pull it back to fluff the fibres. For turf shorter than 1.6 in, Roll & Comb says to use both passes.

But buyer feedback varies across the brand, and the larger 502EUS draws more complaints. Read recent reviews before buying any model.

Our take: in our experience, the pull-back pass matters as much as the pickup, because it is what lifts matted fibres and makes turf look full again in photos and up close.

3. boldworks 16 in Turf Sweeper — Best Turf Vacuum for Large Lawns

Width: 16 in | Brush: 4,000 RPM spiral (seller-listed) | Type: electric

Wide turf sweeper covering a large lawn

On a big lawn, width is time. A 16 in path covers ground faster than a 13 in one.

boldworks says its sweeper uses a 4,000 RPM spiral brush to lift flattened fibres while collecting leaves, dirt, dust and pet hair. The 16 in cleaning path suits medium to large lawns, play areas and patios. The seller pitches it for areas flattened by foot traffic, pets and furniture.

But it has less buyer feedback behind it than Roll & Comb. Check the bag size and cord length suit your lawn before buying.

Our take: from handling a lot of turf, flattened traffic paths are the first thing that makes a lawn look fake, so a wide brush aimed at lifting fibres earns its place on a large lawn.

4. SWIPESMITH 16 in Turf Sweeper — Best for Adjustable Brush Height

Motor: 15 amp | Width: 16 in | Brush heights: 5 positions | Bag: 12 gallon

Adjusting the brush height lever on a turf sweeper

Brush height is what protects your infill. This machine gives you the most control over it.

SWIPESMITH lists a 5-position lever that sets the brush from 0.47 in below the wheel line to 0.24 in above it. Start high and lower it only until debris lifts, and you'll leave most of the infill in place. The 16 in brush, 15 amp motor and 12 gallon bag suit larger lawns, and the handle adjusts to three heights.

But it's a newer listing with little buyer feedback so far. And SWIPESMITH notes it has no dethatching function, so it grooms rather than deep-cleans.

Our take: in our experience with infilled turf, brush height is the setting that decides whether you groom the blades or strip the sand, so fine height control is worth having.

5. BLACK+DECKER 3-in-1 Blower, Vacuum and Mulcher — Best for Leaves

Type: corded blower, vacuum and mulcher | Airflow: up to 250 mph, 400 CFM with PowerBoost (seller) | Bag: reusable

Blower-vac collecting autumn leaves from turf

Under a big tree in autumn, a turf sweeper's bag fills every few minutes. A blower-vac clears leaves much faster.

FaucetFam picked BLACK+DECKER's 3-in-1 for turf. It switches between blower, vacuum and mulcher, so you can blow leaves into a pile, vacuum them up and shred them in the bag. BLACK+DECKER lists up to 250 mph and 400 CFM with its PowerBoost button. It has by far the most buyer feedback of any machine here.

But in vacuum mode, it can pull up loose infill if you hold it close. Keep the tube a few inches above the turf. For blowing only, see our leaf blower guide.

Our take: from our work with artificial grass outdoors, leaves left on turf trap moisture and stain the blades, so a fast leaf tool is worth it under trees, as long as you keep the tube off the infill.

How do you vacuum turf without losing infill?

Start high and lower the brush only until debris lifts. Here's how:

  1. Wait for dry turf. Wet leaves and damp infill clog the brush and bag.
  2. Pick up waste and big items first. Sweepers aren't for pet waste or stones.
  3. Set the brush to its highest setting. Make a test pass.
  4. Lower it one notch at a time. Stop as soon as debris lifts cleanly. Lower than that, and you start pulling infill.
  5. Empty the bag often. A full bag loses suction and drops debris back.
  6. Check the bag for sand. If you see a lot of infill, raise the brush. Top up thin spots afterward. See our infill guide.

How often should you vacuum turf? Monthly for most lawns, and after leaf fall. Weekly for pet hair in shedding season.

For year-round care, see our maintenance guide.
