About Faux Emporium

Faux Emporium is a buying guide for things that look real but aren't. Artificial grass, fake plants, faux Christmas trees, Halloween props, faux stone panels, simulated diamonds, false eyelashes: if it's made to pass for the real thing, we cover it.

Why we started

Shopping for faux products is harder than it looks. Listings use the same photos, the same "realistic" claims and specs that are hard to compare. Two artificial lawns can look identical online and feel completely different underfoot. A "lifelike" faux olive tree can turn out to be a plastic trunk with flat green leaves.

We built Faux Emporium to fix that. Each guide explains what a product is made of, which specs actually matter, what it costs and how to care for it, so you can pick the right one the first time.

Inside our shop

Faux Emporium isn’t only a website. We also run a decoration shop where we work with faux products every day: building event stages and arches from artificial flowers, covering backdrops with grass panels and hanging flower garlands, and seeing how these materials hold up in sun, dust and handling.

That hands-on work shapes how we judge products. We know what makes faux flowers look cheap up close, how grass panels fade outdoors and which garlands shed. When a guide includes a product we’ve handled ourselves, we say so in that guide.

Who we help

  • Homeowners and renters who want a green lawn, a balcony garden or fresh-looking plants without the upkeep.
  • Pet owners looking for turf, mats and decor that can handle dogs and cats.
  • Holiday decorators planning Halloween yards, Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands.
  • Designers and DIYers working with faux stone, brick, wood, marble and other surface finishes.
  • Event planners, photographers and prop makers who need backdrops, display food and props that look right on camera.
  • Anyone shopping for faux fashion and beauty, from faux fur and leather to lashes, nails and jewelry.

How we research products

Every guide starts with research, not a sales pitch, and where possible we check the product ourselves too:

  1. We read the specs. We check each product against the seller's listed materials, sizes and warranty, and we say when a spec comes from the seller.
  2. We compare the best guides on the topic. We study the ten best-ranking pages for each subject, so our guide covers what they cover and fills the gaps they leave.
  3. We check the claims. Facts like costs, lifespans and safety figures come from manufacturers, university extension services, standards bodies and other primary sources, and we name them in the text.
  4. We read buyer reviews for patterns. One review proves nothing. Repeated comments about fading, shedding or odor across many reviews tell us something.
  5. We bring in what we see in our shop. Working with faux flowers, grass panels and garlands every day tells us what to look for in photos, specs and reviews.

We haven’t tested every product we write about. Many of our guides are based on research alone, and each guide says clearly whether we’ve handled the product ourselves. When we give an opinion, it's labeled "Our take" so you can tell it apart from the facts. Read our full editorial policy for the details.

About our images

We use a mix of images on Faux Emporium: real photos, including our own photos from the shop, and AI-generated or AI-edited images that show a scene or an idea, like a dog relaxing on artificial turf or a styled holiday porch. We never present an AI image as a photo of a specific product. For exact product photos, current prices and stock, check the retailer’s listing.

How we make money

Faux Emporium is reader-supported. When you buy through some links on our site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That never changes which products we recommend. Read our full affiliate disclosure.
